Dr. James J Kinahan MD, PHD

Dr. James J Kinahan grew up in the small town of Trail, British Columbia, nestled in the foothills of the Canadian Rockies.  His life was enriched with religious fervor, with a public education system favoring a rigorous British influence, and with an industrial community which while taking pride in its culture development, reveled even more in its joy of sports, particularly hockey.  Out of this upbringing came a strong positive attitude, an active lifestyle, a confidence in human endeavors, an appreciation for the Arts, and a desire to know the sciences.

An undergraduate biochemistry degree from McGill University was followed by a Ph.D. in biochemistry from Texas A&M.  Subsequent orientation to the practice of medicine came from a close exposure to it.  Postdoctoral work at Roswell park Memorial Institute and subsequent appointments at New York Medical College (NYMC) and Sloan-Kettering Memorial Institue focused on chemotherapeutic approaches toward cancer amelioration. Increased involvement with patients in clinical pharmacokinetics studies led to the desire to include in his life the joy of patient care and to expand his understanding

of the art of medicine.

Dr. Kinahan has had the benefit of two "schools" of medicine, one effectively emphasizing the basic sciences for two years (NYMC), and the other, Bowman-Gray School of Medicine (BGSM), widely recognized for its proficient clinical training of highly competent graduates.  As a member of the BGSM class of '89, clinical training has substantially increased and reinforced his fund of knowledge, and it has given him strong confidence in his ability to make sound clinical judgments, solve problems and perform procedures.

Dr. Kinahan has a wife and three children. He enjoys hockey games, classical music, travel and reading. His eldest daughter Drue is Director of DVC Medical Aesthetics located inside of the primary care facility.

Dr. Kinahan sees patients in the MDVIP program and through EHE International Monday-Friday.
